Jomsom Muktinath Trek is a holy trek to Muktinath – a popular religious hub that is full of thrill, adventure, and natural glories. The trek to Muktinath and Jomsom goes through the same popular route of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek till Ghorepani. We start from the foothills of Annapurna region and pass various charming ethnic settlements in between. We walk through the dense rhododendron forests that will lead us to a popular view point at Ghorepani Poon Hill. As we reach there, we will be rewarded with the fascinating views of mountains like Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Macchapucchre, Mt. Tukuche and many other neighbouring peaks.
How to explore the Jomsom Muktinath Trek?
Leaving Ghorepani Poon Hill, we enter into the next half of our journey, where we descend to beautiful villages like Gasa and Tukuche. We follow the Kaligandaki River and pass a lovely waterfall on the way to Muktinath. In Marpha village, we can witness the apple orchards and even try a local wine made there. Our journey further ascends through a wild landscape of Kagbeni to Muktinath, with stunning views of the Annapurna panorama in the backdrop. At Muktinath, we can get some astounding views of mountains with a wild landscape all around.
Muktinath is a popular temple visited by thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims annually. The temple is beautifully made with 108 bull-faced water taps through which water pours continuously. As per Hindu mythology, Muktinath is one of the shakti peeths and is believed to be the same place where Goddess Sati’s forehead had fallen while Lord Shiva had madly carried her and wandered around after her death. Muktinath temple holds a religious value amongst Buddhist pilgrims too. It is considered the place where Guru Rinpoche had meditated during his travel to Tibet.
The Jomsom Muktinath Trek ends with a walk down to Jomsom via Muktinath. Jomsom is a vibrant town in the Annapurna region, which is well known for the people inhabited in that area.
