It is believed that in ancient times, a deity, Dorje Jono, fought a battle against his evil father to save the kingdom of Mustang from destruction. Tiji festival is celebrated to cherish the same victory with a hope that good always rises to overshadow the power of darkness. In this festival, people wear traditional colorful dresses, various dramas are performed, people are masked in evil and god attire, and the whole festival revolves around the concept of the victory of good over evil. People chant prayers, play drums, and perform various traditional dances, with acts supporting the myth related to the festival.
