Trip Overview
For the ultimate Himalaya experience, the Everest Base Camp Trek and Island Peak Climb is the perfect combination of high-altitude trekking and mountaineering adventure. The 20-day trekking experience takes the classic route on the Khumbu to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and to Island Peak (Imja Tse, 6,189 m), one of the simplest and most rewarding of Nepal's trekking peaks.
The trek passes through Sherpa settlements and old monasteries and between the magnificent alpine giants, and that is a genuine cultural experience and fine views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Having reached the foot of the highest mountain in the world, mountaineers shall also have the option to climb Island Peak's white ridges, on which the final section to the summit shall be glacier travel (roped up) and crossing of a Himalayan summit ridge.
This trek is ideal for physically active trekking enthusiasts who wish to climb and enjoy the psychological and physical rewards of the most famous high-altitude trekking experience in Nepal.
Route Description
The Everest Base Camp Trek and Island Peak Climbing begin with a breathtaking mountain flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Begin your trek from Lukla to Phakding, then to Namche Bazaar. Trekking through a green forest and suspension bridges over the river Dudh Koshi, you get to view a great view of the range of the Himalayas on the horizon. Namche Bazaar is a bustling village where you have your rest day. You will trek up to the Everest View Hotel and enjoy the view of Mt. Everest and Ama Dablam from there. The next day, your trek is to Tengboche along rhododendron forest paths and yak grazing pastures. Tengboche boasts the old monastery, the biggest monastery in Khumbu Valley, Tengboche Monastery. The route goes up to Dingboche for the next acclimatization spot.
Hike as high as Nangkartshang Hill and look out over the great Himalayas and the surrounding peaks from there. The trek continues on to Lobuche, and you trek to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep. It is a pleasant location with stunning 360° views of the mighty Himalayas, and you trekked to Kalapatthar the following day for a sunrise golden view of Everest and other ranges.
After witnessing the Everest region's trekking pinnacle, the trekking trail heads in the direction of Chhukung, then Island Peak Base Camp. You will be walking on an icy trail, glacial crevasses, and the final headwall using fixed ropes and crampons. Ascend to the Island Summit and get to see the stunning views of Makalu, Baruntse, Lhotse, and Imja Glacier Valley. Descend via the same route and arrive at Chhukung. Descend to Pangboche and Namche, and reach Lukla. Fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu by a mountain flight, and the expedition is over.
The trekking and climbing over high mountains serve as a good combination of physical fitness, cultural adaptation, and the Himalayan landscape.

Why Choose EBC Trek with Island Peak Climbing?
The Everest Base Camp Trek and Island Peak Summit are a true Himalayan combination of the two unforgettable experiences of trekking up to Everest and scaling Island Peak, one of Nepal's popular trekking peaks, standing tall at 6,189 meters. The whole 20-day expedition promises the hues of scenic trekking, cultural learning, and very high-altitude climbing set in the heart of the Khumbu Valley.
The trekkers would hence witness Sherpa villages with high regard, such as Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, soak in the spiritual aura of Himalayan monasteries, and feast their eyes on the majestic panoramas of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. From Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the sunrise trek over Everest and Island Peak climbing would culminate in an extremely exciting and plausible summit for those climbers looking to embark upon their very first Himalayan mountaineering experience.
With rope climb, glacier climb, and summit ridge of world-class, the Island Peak climb is an authentic alpine adventure with no technical expertise. Altitude acclimatization in the program, experienced climbing guides, and contingency days ensure high summit success rates. This combination trek, as experienced trekker or climber wannabe, is ideal for a person to enjoy Nepal's best trekking peak experience along with the iconic Everest Base Camp trek.
If you are searching for an Everest summit climb and a Nepal trek of a lifetime, then this trek is your passport to the quality, success, and majesty of the Himalayas.
What to Expect on Island Peak Climbing?
Island Peak Climbing (6,189 m) is a thrilling high-altitude peak with the addition of the popular Everest Base Camp trek, and one of Nepal's most popular trekking peaks. The ascent from Island Peak Base Camp (5,200 m) is an early morning and a mixture of rock ridges, glacier travel, and steep ice headwall with extensive cramponing, fixed ropes, harnesses, and ice axes.
While Island Peak is neither a high-tech alpine experience-requiring nor too technical, it still requires great physical shape, acclimatization, and the capacity to deal with technical mountaineering sections at very high altitudes. Guided by experienced climbing sherpas, you’ll reach the summit to witness breathtaking views of Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and the Khumbu Himalaya. This tour is best for such trekker-travelers who want to take one step further with experience by undergoing a safe and easily accessible Himalayan peak climbing activity.
Best Season to Trek
The best periods to take on the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing are during the spring (March to May) and autumn seasons (September to November).
Spring is the best season for trekking in the Nepal Himalayas. The weather during this period is soft and predictable, with clear weather, and the Himalayas and their surroundings can be seen. It is also the time when the trails are carpeted with rhododendrons, and conditions for Island Peak climbing are ideal, with hard snow and moderate winds on the summit ridge.
Autumn is ideal for trekking in Nepal. Autumn offers clear visibility of the Himalayas, and extensive views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam can be obtained. The trails are dry, with a pleasant and serene temperature, and offer the most reliable window for trekking and climbing.
The winter and monsoon seasons are not the best periods to make treks in the Nepal Himalayas. There would be less chance of seeing the mountains and the landscape distinctly.
Trekking Difficult
The Everest Base Camp Trek Island Peak Climbing is a strenuous, high-altitude trek with moderate climbing and technical mountaineering. You will have to walk 5–7 hours daily on various terrains. As your trek is up to over 5,000 meters, the danger of altitude sickness increases. The trekking path is well-conditioned as well as well-marked, but demands physical endurance and a tough mind. If you are a beginner trekker, then you must have excellent knowledge in terms of high-altitude trekking.
After reaching Island Peak, then the real adventure starts. The Island Peak Climbing comes with a proper understanding of the mountaineering gear, such as crampons, harnesses, fixed ropes, and ice axes. Climbers need to cross crevassed glaciers, ascend a headwall that is steep and walk on a thin summit ridge, so it is even more technically and physically challenging than usual treks. You must possess sound mountaineering experience above 4,000 m and sound body fitness. You must have pre-climb training or some basic mountaineering experience, and this is highly recommended.
You will need some basic climbing experience, and pre-climb orientation is highly recommended. This is a trek for adventure seekers and well-equipped trekkers willing to venture into the world of Himalayan climbing with experienced guides, acclimatization days, and an itinerary.

Travel Insurance
In trekking, travel insurance is required for the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing. Travel insurance covers emergency medical treatment, helicopter evacuation, trip cancellation, delay, high-altitude trekking, mountaineering, and loss or theft of equipment.
Not every standard travel insurance policy covers high-altitude climbing or technical trekking, so ensure your policy has rope climbing and crampon use at Island Peak. Most of Nepal's trekking groups demand presenting valid on-trip travel insurance to guarantee your security and integrity measures before local authorities.
Meals and Accommodation
On the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing, one resides in comfortable teahouses along the trekking route and tented camps at Island Peak Base Camp. Teahouses offer plain but comfortable rooms—twin-sharing predominantly—with communal dining halls, warm blankets, and occasionally hot showers (with an extra fee). While staying in Kathmandu, trekkers normally reside in 3-star or boutique hotels with all contemporary facilities.
For food, there's healthy, energy-rich stuff such as dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), pasta, fried rice, momo (dumplings), soups, eggs, potatoes, and noodles. Both Nepali and Western-style meals are generally found at most teahouses, complemented by hot drinks such as tea, coffee, and lemon ginger honey to warm you. Food is cooked freshly every day by the climbing staff and consumed in a dining tent, with hot and wholesome food to fuel your summit bid. Food options may not be as fancy at higher elevations, but the lodge hospitality and warmth, and attentiveness of the support staff cannot be matched for your Everest trekking and Island Peak climbing experience.

I joined Wildman's tour to Nepal for ABC trekking at the end of March, and during the trekking we were taken well care of by Nepal Intrepid Treks and Expedition. The local guides are professional, friendly and always know what we need before we ask for help, and the porters are honest and reliable. I believe that without their hard work, it is impossible for me to complete this amazing journey. A month has passed, the towering mountains, the blooming azaleas and the guides and porters’ dedication to their work are still vivid in my memory and it seems like only yesterday. Highly recommended!
