Chandragiri Hill Hiking: Single day trip
Chandragiri is a beautiful location near Kathmandu that has been recently opened for the touristic purpose. Chandragiri Hill Hiking is a short day hike that lets you explore the lush nature amongst the green hills and offers the views of mountains in abundance. The striking views of mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Manaslu, Langtang Range, Ganesh Himal and Gauri Shankar Himal are a reward of this seven hours day hike to the hill of Chandragiri. Besides, the lush hills that rise just in front of the towering mountains give nature a serene look. Though the walking tours of the hike are less, you will be blessed with the glories of nature in plenty.
The picturesque scenery of hills, mountains, forests will make you feel like getting lost in the lust of nature. Moreover, Chandragiri Hill Hiking is a wonderful opportunity for bird watching. The way you walk through is a home to many unique birds. You can also find some special herbs hidden inside the bushes that you walk through on the way to Chandragiri.
Let’s Start Chandragiri Hill Hiking
Chandragiri Hill Hiking starts from Thankot. Your guide will escort you from your hotel to Thankot with a wonderful ride from where you take a cable car ride up to the Chandragiri hills. Ten minutes of a journey inside the cable car takes you up to the Chandragiri hills at an elevation of 2520 meters. During the ride up to the hill in a cable car, you can have magnificent views of dense forests just below you. As you reach the hill, you will be blessed with some rewarding views of mountains, hills, and forests.The panoramic view of mountains ranges from Annapurna range in the west to Everest Himal in the east.
Similarly, you can also get some striking views of mountains in Langtang range like Ganesh Himal, Gaurishanker Himal, etc. There are two Hindu temples built in the hill, therefore you can visit the temples which are popular as Bhaleshwor Mahadev and Champa Devi Temple. After exploring the hill for about an hour, we make our way journey down to Hattiban resort through a lush jungle. As you pass through the jungle, you can see the beautiful flowers blossom inside the jungle. Similarly, the jungle is a home to many important herbs and animals. As you descend down, you will reach the Hattiban resort in a couple of hours which will be your endpoint of the Chandragiri Hill Hiking journey.

The standard hike from trailheads like Thankot, Matatirtha, or Machhegaun to the top is about 7-8 km one way, taking 3-4 hours uphill. Difficulty is moderate, with steep sections and stone steps, but suitable for beginners with average fitness. No risk of altitude sickness as it's a day trip.
